When I was a kid, basically since I can remember, my dad, a long-time rocker and vinyl collector would wake me and my brother up by blasting a classic album at full volume on the living room hi-fi set, leaning the cover of the record above the turntable so we could know what we're listening to without having to shout through the loud music and interrupt the morning listening session that quickly became a family ritual.

This is how I inherited my obsession with music and started building and developing my own music taste, the religious appreciation to the Rock & Roll gods as well as the boomer-vibe rage that fills me up anytime someone disrespects the music and culture.

Which leads us to the lead guitarist at the center of today's list, the wizard of Les Paul, the architect of heavy riffs, and the man who proved that the best way to make history is to ignore all the rules. the birthday boy, Jimmy Page.

Page, the mastermind behind some of rock's mightiest riffs just turned 81. Born on January 9, 1944, he has spent over six decades making guitars do things they probably weren't designed for, whether it's picking on a double-neck Gibson or shredding with a violin bow.

From his early days as a session musician to becoming rock's premier guitar sorcerer, Page is one of the blueprints of rock guitarists and rockstars in general.

One of the best, most accurate and straightforward ways I've heard someone describe Page and Led Zeppelin was when Jack Black introduced them at the Kennedy Center honors ceremony.
